Garden Tea Party - My dreamy baby shower!

Hello everyone!
Since Latika started, i have been involved in so many baby showers as the person providing the party favors.. It is a fascinating event for me since i have never actually attended a baby shower (yes! we don't have them in Israel!).

So when my sweet sister in law offered to host a baby shower for my own little bundle of joy, i was thrilled! First of all- it is a great opportunity to have a fun afternoon with friends.. and i knew that if Jana is in charge- that means it will be a beautiful beautiful party! And indeed it was! An absolute dream!

Jana totally knows me and she had the right idea of throwing a garden tea party, vintage style, and of course a green color theme would somehow be involved because i'm obsessed and can't stop with the mint green!

So- lets get to the fun part- some pics and details..

Starting with this amazing cake; Not only beautiful, romantic and vintage'y- it is really the best vanilla cake ever! Jana made this whole thing from scratch; The cake and frosting and decorated it to perfection.. YUMM!!

The dessert bar and food tables were just breath taking! Every little detail was attended to! Tiny flags on little desserts, small fruit pies (homemade!) in little cups, chocolate dipped waffle cones with fruit and frosting, perfect little sandwiches and delicious salads and dips.. delicious and beautiful!

The garden was transformed into a floral heaven.. Lavender, flowers and little birds.. what more can a girl want?!

I was ordered to rest well, not do anything and basically- get pampered! But i did have one and only task, the party favors.. So i set up a bath tea bar for my lovely romantic vintage tea party.. Where every guest could choose any natural herb for her bath tea and fill a hand stamped muslin bag with flowers, herbs and dead sea salt. After this party i would like everyone to take a pampering detox bath and enjoy!

I also made soaps for everyone, with lovely cacti and floral packaging i made with graphic elements i found online. The bunting flags and tags matched the design with a brush of gold and glitter color.. It was really really fun to make and to give! See more pictures on my instagram account

I am still overwhelmed with excitement..everyone who came and everyone who contributed to this special celebration deserves a huge thank you!

Especially my dear Jana who worked so hard, and with endless love and exquisite taste and talent brought everything i never even knew i wanted to life!
THANK YOU! ❤

We even had a chance to take some maternity pictures ;)
This baby shower was all about mom, but i am so ready for life to become all about baby!!

What i learned from selling at the Renegade craft show (Austin, Tx)

Hi guys,

we get asked a lot about booth set up and display, so i just copied my last email reply and posted it here.
some of the things i know today could have saved me a lot of time, effort and money if i knew them before.
this email referred specifically to renegade craft show and how to plan the set up- this is based on my own experience and my products- other products and brands may have completely different outlook on the matter.
feel free to ask me anything (comments :) and share your tips.

At renegade- i noticed that the sales depend a lot on the presentation and price point. there will be competition so i would definitely try to set myself apart by making a solid look to my booth and suggest different price points. i hear a lot of customers at renegade complaining about  everything being expensive, but i also see the vendors with the pricier items sell as well. we like to combine and offer items for average price of $20, with a good selection of little things.

2012 winter show, it was pretty but took too long and the set up did not promote sales.
for the set up-  we learned a lot since going to rcf for the first time- our first show was a display disaster! we tried to set up a booth with wooden walls and it was definitely the wrong choice. by the time we were done setting up, it was already after the noon rush.  rcf gives you very little time to set up and i recommend making the most of what you have without spending too much money and energy on elaborate constructions.

after the first show we experimented with setting up a simple booth. we just flew back from a visit to Israel, so we had no time to prepare anyway(which was a good thing) what we did was buy the cardboard walls from RCF, i drew on them with chalk and that was the backdrop. we set up tables facing the out side of the booth (instead of a booth people need to come in to) and just placed products on the tables. with white table cloth and accessorize. simple and effective. and that really worked for us.

after that we were able to upgrade our table set up by building shelves and we just do the card board thing every time we go to renegade.

we did have one show there where we set up the walls and didn't have time to decorate them, it looked kinda bad but the sales were still great.

some things we learned about display and being on a show from looking at the best selling booths in every show we went to:

the principal is to  "come ready to work" be sale oriented, be in the moment and pay attention to every person that visits your booth. we  talk a lot and that helps us stay alert and energized and happy- and being informative and happy helps sales :)

high display is better- use bed raisers (from walmart) to make the table taller. we add shelves and accessorize to place the products higher and in eye level.

grouping- similar items grouped together make a better impact and attract more interest.

compliment the product by using a solid or quiet color behind it. we chose white and grey because we have many little items and very colorful soaps. i think solid is good with any  color. to make the product pop more then the whole background.

a good chair will save you! we bought a wooden directors chair (pier1 imports), and also have a tall chair from walmart.

for the busy season- we use a soft foam carpet to help our feet a little

make sure you bring snacks and plenty of water. we keep nuts and granola bars on hand, plus some breath fresheners like spray and mint gum. for after lunch :)

Paris is always a good idea!

We are so excited to finally launch this soap set! We have been making French Macaron soaps since Latika started in Israel, around 3 years ago. Our Macaron soaps were always popular, and we love them!

A few months ago, we decided to try and make a new macaron mold, we wanted a more realistic, 3d look for the cookie soap. So we started testing different macarons in Austin (work is so hard sometimes ;).

Research was so hard!
We found a lovely french bakery, right next to our factory, called Cinnamon's bakery, and there we met a sweet man, with smiling eyes and a lot of love for his little bakery shop.

Chef Loïc Duchesne was busy making some of his famous little rose macarons, and i was mesmerized by the work and flavors!

Real macarons are so adorable! They are a little crunchy, a little soft, and taste so good! the only thing is, the whole experience of eating a macaron goes by so fast! Man, they are small!

For our soap, we wanted a larger cookie, that will look real, but at the same time, will be fun to hold and use as soap, and large enough to present and enjoy as decorative soap.

So we asked the chef if he could make an extra large cookie for us, and he did!

It took us a while to actually be able to make a mold out of a real cookie, since the material doesn't always respond well with real food . We had to develop our own unique technique and finally, after many tweaking and experiments, came up with a beautiful macaron soap!

You can buy a single soap on our shop, or get this super cute set of 3, with a label that says: "Paris is always a good idea".

I believe that if all else fails, Paris is always a good idea!
And in case you cant go to Paris right now- get these cute soaps, and feel like you're in the most romantic city in the world!

* Chef Loïc Duchesne past away surprisingly last month, leaving behind a loving family and many friends and customers. We still go to Cinnamon's bakery in Austin, to enjoy his wonderful recipes and legacy and support a wonderful local business.
